Hours of vocal demand.
Every weekend.
Worship leaders ask a lot of their voices every weekend. Between rehearsals, sound checks, and multiple services, it’s easy to fall into a cycle of singing until you’re tired or hoarse, recovering during the week, and starting all over again.
Your voice can't run on empty
Your voice is part of your body, and the demands placed on it add up. Age, stress, technique, and lack of recovery can affect strength, stamina, and consistency, which makes it harder to lead with the health and freedom needed for the long run.
how we support

You don’t have to figure out how to care for your voice on your own.

Likewise Worship comes alongside worship leaders and teams with practical, ministry-specific vocal training built for the real demands of worship leading. From rehearsals and sound checks to multiple services and leading a congregation, we give you the tools to lead with strength, freedom, and confidence.

Martha Irvine

Read Bio

Martha Irvine is an Arizona native and proud pastor’s kid who grew up immersed in music and the life of the local church. From a young age, she sang and served alongside her family, and that early love for worship has remained a steady thread God has faithfully woven throughout her life.

With more than 25 years of worship leading and 13 years of voice teaching, Martha brings both depth of experience and genuine empathy to her work. She holds a degree in Music Education and earned her Master’s degree in Functional Voice Training from Shenandoah University, where she studied how the voice is designed to function freely, efficiently, and sustainably. During her undergraduate years, Martha encountered her own vocal health challenges—including vocal fatigue and nodules—which led her into speech therapy and sparked a deeper curiosity about vocal health. That season ultimately shaped her calling: learning how God created the voice and how to steward it well for long-term ministry.

Today, Martha serves with Likewise as the Director of Vocal Development, where she spends her time in one-on-one coaching sessions, mentoring worship leaders, and teaching voice workshops in Likewise cities across the U.S. Known for her “nerdy but fun” teaching style, she blends voice science, anatomy, and practical technique to help singers understand that they are vocal athletes—designed to sing with freedom, confidence, and longevity.

Martha is passionate about coming alongside worship leaders to help them sing sustainably and lead with greater freedom and artistry. She finds deep joy in watching that growth overflow into personal worship, worship teams, and congregations.

Outside of teaching and singing, Martha loves exploring places that make her feel small—whether hiking, swimming in the ocean, or taking long walks in beautiful spaces. She is also a proud aunt to a lively crew of nieces and nephews and is well-known for hosting energetic sleepovers, epic Nerf gun battles, and the occasional surprise family ambush.

Martha’s heart is to equip and encourage worship leaders to find true vocal freedom while building sustainable, functional technique. Her desire is to help singers care for their vocal health, continue finding joy in singing, and faithfully use their God-given voices for many years to come. She looks forward to coming alongside you and your team through coaching, mentorship, and training.

Justin McCartney

Read Bio

With more than two decades of experience as a vocal director, arranger, performer, and worship leader, Justin McCartney is a seasoned vocal coach dedicated to helping singers unlock the confidence, strength, and freedom they need to lead well. Drawing from over 25 years of worship leadership in churches across the U.S., Justin understands firsthand what it takes to steward your voice week after week—and how easily vocal strain, fatigue, or insecurity can become barriers to Spirit-led worship. But he also knows there is a way forward. And in this season of life and ministry, Justin is deeply committed to investing in the next generation of worship pastors and worship leaders so they can thrive vocally, spiritually, and artistically.

Justin’s musical foundation began at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he graduated in 2001 with a degree in Music Performance. His career has carried him across Texas, Florida, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania, performing for corporate events, community organizations, churches, para-church ministries, and even international television broadcasts. His diverse background—spanning classical, jazz, contemporary pop, musical theater, and worship—has shaped him into a dynamic coach equipped to meet singers exactly where they are.

When the global pandemic reshaped the world in 2020, Justin transitioned seamlessly from in-person coaching to online instruction, discovering new ways to strengthen his impact and reach students worldwide. This shift led him to become a certified vocal coach within Charmaine Brown’s Worship Vocalist global community and ultimately inspired the launch of Justin McCartney Studios, where he now coaches worship leaders, developing artists, and singers of all ages both locally and around the world.

Beyond the studio, Justin is passionate about mentoring young leaders and building life-giving relationships—often over a strong cup of coffee. He enjoys quality time with his family, HGTV and Food Network marathons, action and drama movies, and highly competitive game nights. Justin and his wife, Heidi, live in Little Rock, Arkansas, with their four children—Ashton, Reagan, Lillie, and Ella—each gifted in the performing or visual arts. Justin also serves as a worship pastor at Fellowship Bible Church while continuing to offer private voice and piano instruction both from his home studio and online.

Whether you’re a worship pastor longing for more vocal stamina, a worship leader seeking greater consistency, or a singer who wants to grow in confidence and clarity—Justin brings the heart of a pastor, the ear of a musician, and the passion of a coach who genuinely wants to see you flourish.

Cara Drown

Read Bio

Cara is a voice and piano instructor, worship leader, and music educator with over 20 years of teaching experience across private studios, schools, university, and home-based settings. Her work centers on helping students develop healthy technique, confident musicianship, and a deeper understanding of their individual instrument.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal studies, a minor in Biblical Studies, and has completed graduate-level coursework toward a Master’s degree in Collegiate Teaching and Learning. Cara is also certified in Somatic Voicework™ through Jeanie LoVetri, which informs her approach to vocal health, function, and stylistic flexibility.

Cara began studying voice at the age of seven, receiving a strong foundation in classical and operatic training before expanding into jazz, worship, and contemporary styles. Over time, she has intentionally learned how to apply classical technique in practical, style-appropriate ways. In addition to voice, she has over 30 years of experience as a pianist and enjoys helping students translate traditional training into modern musicianship.

Ministry has been a defining thread throughout Cara’s life. She has served in church music ministry since the age of 12, spent nearly five years as a Worship Pastor, and served as a musical missionary for almost two years. These experiences shaped her passion for mentoring individuals, building meaningful relationships, and fostering growth through music and worship.

As an educator, Cara believes the instrument and the individual are deeply connected. While lessons focus on technique, vocal health, and artistry, they also create space for personal growth, confidence-building, and breakthrough. Her goal is to walk alongside each student—whether they are serving on a worship team, leading songs, or discovering their voice for the first time—and support them as they grow as musicians and whole people.

Cara is a wife and homeschooling mother of four brilliant children, each involved in the arts as age allows. She loves being outdoors whenever possible and enjoys tackling home improvement projects as a regular part of family life. Cara values building genuine relationships and finds great joy in doing life with friends and family. She currently serves on the praise team at Copper Hills Church in Peoria, AZ, and teaches nearly 30 students weekly at the Copper Hills Center for the Arts.

By strengthening my vocal health and technique, it has allowed me to focus more on the Lord and leading while singing instead of being stressed and held back because of vocal strain or frustration, if I keep up with my lessons and warm ups.

I've been able to feel confident stepping into worship and leading by singing while playing my instrument. We've been able to work through and identify years of singing from tension and transitioning to what it sounds, feels, looks like when singing from a relaxed and consistent posture

I am amazed how well the process of coaching works via Zoom! I am also incredibly grateful that the coaching goes so much deeper than music, but dives into really aiding ministry and life as a worship leader. A well rounded program run by a wonderful and caring team!
Rachel

It has changed my approach to singing entirely. I have so much more stamina and control over my voice. I look forward to Sundays because of my vocal coaching!
Brian
Worship Leader
It’s given me much needed insight to my voice and technique. I have a better idea of my weaknesses and strengths. I am better able to focus on what to do and how to do it. I am grateful to have a coach and not do it alone.
